Franco Castelli is a partner in Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz’s Antitrust Department, which he joined in 2005. He focuses on competition analysis for U.S. and cross-border mergers, acquisitions, and joint ventures, representing clients before the FTC, DOJ, European Commission, and other agencies. He has advised on transactions across high-tech, financial information services, pharmaceutical, oil and gas, and chemical industries.
His notable representations include Smurfit-Kappa in its $20 billion merger with WestRock; Nasdaq’s $10.5 billion acquisition of Adenza and other deals; Marsh & McLennan’s $7.8 billion acquisition of McGriff Insurance Services; S&P Global’s $44 billion acquisition of IHS Markit; Celgene’s $80 billion acquisition by Bristol-Myers Squibb; and Actelion’s $30 billion sale to Johnson & Johnson.
Mr. Castelli earned his J.D. from the University of Milan in 2001 and his LL.M. from Columbia Law School in 2005 as a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar. He has been recognised as a “Future Leader” by Who’s Who Legal: Competition since 2017.
